Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA)
"When
my grandson had to leave a daycare center because they were
not equipped to handle special needs, I focused my research on our
rights under ADA. I
have to admit, I'm still trying to find the final answer. Are daycare
providers obligated to provide an aid for my child"? If you have
more info please contact me."
Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA)
is federal legislation that extends civil rights protections to
individuals with disabilities. Child care programs are affected by the
public accommodations sections as well as the employment provisions.
ADA applies to privately owned as well as publicly operated child
care. Child care programs operated by religious organizations are
exempt from some of the ADA provisions. For more information, call the
ADA Information Line at 800/514-0301 (voice); 800/514-0383 (TDD).
