Developmental Disorders - Not Otherwise Specified
Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) is
one of the five pervasive developmental disorders described in the
diagnostic manual published by the American Psychiatric Association. This
diagnosis is used to describe individuals who are experiencing significant
social interaction difficulties, or serious problems with communication or
who exhibit stereotypic behavior patterns - but do not demonstrate the
specific features required to meet the criteria for another pervasive
developmental disorder. The term PDD-NOS incorporates diagnoses of
atypical autism. Atypical autism, as a diagnostic term, may be used to
describe individuals who display unique developmental features, but who do
not meet the specific diagnostic criteria for autism.
